Volunteer profile – Trent McGee

Name: Trent McGee

Age: 41

How many camps have you attended? 10 (all of them!)

Why do you volunteer for Feel the Magic? After losing my mother at age 25 in a car accident, I know all too well how hard it is to deal with such loss and tragedy. When I heard of Feel the Magic and what it does for grieving children, I wanted to help out and make a difference to young grieving lives.

What is your favourite season and why? Summer, because this is when you see the growth in all the children on the last day of Camp Magic.

What is your favourite part about camp? Witnessing the campers bonding and realising they’re not alone. Also the connection between mentors who are all great people and the Talk Time Leaders leading by example.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve heard about grief? Grief doesn’t define who you are and although it doesn’t go away it does get easier.

What inspires you about our campers? Witnessing children thrive outside of camp and hearing them say that their Camp Magic experience changed their life.
