Volunteer Profile – Nicole McGloin
How many camps have you attended?
Why do you volunteer for Feel the Magic®?
It’s so important to be able to express yourself and feel supported when experiencing grief. If suppressed, it can impact on your life and others for years to come. The feeling of belonging to a community of people who understand you with no judgment means so much. The change I see as a mentor from the time these kids arrive at Camp to them leaving tells me how much this programme makes a difference.
What is your favourite season and why?
Spring when everything starts to grow and blossom.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve heard about grief?
That it’s okay to have all the emotions that we experience and to cry.
What inspires you about our campers?
How brave they are sharing their stories and how caring they are towards eachother.
A final note from Nicole:
Giving children the opportunity to grieve and learn how to cope with all the emotions is so important. Grief is part of all of our lives and if you don’t know how to deal with it life can be very hard.
