The Tickell Family Story

In December 2017, Cody Tickell who at the time was aged 11, tragically lost his older brother Blake in a horrific boating accident.

Feeling isolated and alone, Cody’s parents Darren and Simone decided to give ‘Camp Magic‘ a try to help support Cody and themselves to come to terms  with their new normal. In October 2018, Cody attended his first Camp Magic program and was finally surrounded by others who get it.

Here is what Cody, Darren and Simone had to say about their experience with Feel the Magic.

This beautiful video has been put together by Feel the Magic Ambassador Dimity Clancey from Nine Entertainment. and was showcased at our most recent Night of Magic VII gala event.

This footage truly captures the mindset of a bereaved child and how they are deeply affected by such loss.

We would like to thank and acknowledge the Tickell family, for their bravery and courage for sharing their personal story of grief and loss.

What a Night of Magic VII

Another fantastic ‘Night of Magic’ over for yet another year. We are pleased to announce the event raised an amount of $101,117.00 which will support over a hundred bereaved children and teens in 2019/20.

A special thank you to the Tickell family (pictured) who personally donated $15k in honour of their son Blake. On the night we announced that these funds will be going towards creating a story book covering important life skills such as resilience and dealing with life’s adversity. The title of the book will be called ‘the Reason’ which has a very personal meaning to the Tickell family.

Thank you all very much for your support, our impact is thanks to you! Thank you to Deb Knight and Michael Usher for being pehonominal hosts of the event. 2020 dates for ‘Night of Magic VIII’ will be announced shortly, stay tuned.

Thank you

“ Having lost my beautiful boy Sammy at just six years old, the impact on families is enormous. Sam was beyond his years, an amazing son who was dealt the worst possible hand in life. But I had a son who lived on and I remain so proud and loving of Joey who endured sorrow and pain that no 9 year old should have to experience. To have something like Camp Magic for Joey would have been so beneficial and comforting in his time of need. That’s why I did not hesitate when asked by my great mate and colleague Michael Usher to be part of your very special evening.”
